EDO: Gunmen ambush cops, kill 1, injure 3, set patrol vans ablaze
A cop was killed, while three others were wounded and a petrol van was vandalised when unknown gunmen ambushed policemen stationed at Ovia River Bridge along Benin-Iguobazuwa road in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to reports, the gunmen on arriving the river bank in two speedboats opened fire at policemen on patrol within the area killing one of them in the process and injured others.
The cops at the scene of the incident had returned fire but were overwhelmed by the superior fire-power of the gunmen forcing them to abandon their Hilux van and escape to a nearby bush.

The incident occurred as a rival secret cult group beheaded a young man in a reprisal attack in Benin, the state capital.
Sources also revealed that the beheaded victim was in retaliation over the death of another in a similar circumstance.
As at the time of filing in this report, the State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo was yet to comment on the matter.
