EFCC acusses ex-Gov Jang of stealing N6.3bn 2 months before leaving office

Former governor of Plateau State and a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator, Jonah Jang, has been dragged before a High Court in his state over alleged fraud of N6.3 billion.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed the case on Monday, leveling against him 12-count charges. It alleged that the senator committed the fraud two months to the end of his tenure as governor in 2015.

Jang is charged along with the cashier of the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Yusuf Pam.

The EFCC claimed that Jang abused his office by diverting money to the tune of N4.3 billion from the state coffers through Pam.

Among other accusation the anti-graft agency said that Jang, who represents Plateau-North at the Senate diverted N2 billion released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for disbursement to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the state under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Funds (MSMEDF), a month to the expiration of his tenure in April 2015.

On Pam, the EFCC accused him of corruptly using his then office for personal enrichment to the tune of N11.5 million.
