Court vacates interim forfeiture order on Nwaoboshi's properties

The Senator representing Delta North in the National Assembly, Peter Nwaoboshi, was on Wednesday arraigned before Justice Mohammed Idris of the Lagos Federal High Court over alleged N322 million.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting the senator alongside two firms, Golden Touch Construction Project Limited and Suiming Electricals Limited, on two count charges bordering on conspiracy and money laundering.

The anti-graft agency said that the senator and Golden Touch Construction Project Limited purchased a property known as Guinea House, Marine Road, Apapa, Lagos for N805 million between May and June 2014.

It claimed that N322 million out of the N805 million was part of proceeds of “an unlawful act, to wit: fraud.”

According to the EFCC, the N322 million was transferred to the vendor of the property on the orders of Suiming Electricals Limited, which in turn helped Nwaoboshi and Golden Touch Construction Project Limited to commit money laundering on or about May 14, 2014.

The commission is arguing that the defendants acted contrary to sections 18(a) and15 (2)(d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 and are liable to punishment under Section 15(3) of the same Act.

However, all the defendants pleaded not guilty when the judge read out the charges preferred against them.
