EFCC arrests ministry’s Director for diverting staff salaries in Sokoto

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) on Friday arrested two officials from the Ministry of Local Government Affairs in Sokoto State for allegedly diverting N6.7 million from the ministry’s coffers.

Those arrested were Danladi Chindo, Director of Finance in the ministry and one Nasiru Umar.

A statement issued by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said the duo were arrested for an alleged conspiracy, abuse of office and diversion of the said funds.

However, the money been recovered by the anti-graft agency.

The statement read: “The arrest of the suspects followed a petition by 63 staff of Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State alleging that the suspects misappropriated their salaries for the months of April to September 2019.

“Investigation revealed that the salaries of the 63 employees were stopped for alleged malicious reasons. However, the entire sum of N6, 703, 000.00k diverted by the officials, has been recovered.

“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.”
