The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) claims it has recovered about 50 Certificates of Occupancy registered in the name of a former National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Abdullahi Mukhtar (retd.), and his wife, Binta.

Acting on an intelligence report, the anti-crime agency said it found the jewellery in a fireproof safe hidden in a house allegedly belonging to Danagundi, a brother-in-law to the ex-NSA, who lives at 375 Gwangwazo Quarters in Kano, Kano State.

“During the operation, Aiko Fireproof safe and seven suspects, including the house owner, Danagundi, were arrested and brought to the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Office, where their statements were taken,” EFCC said.

The agency added that, “On arriving at the commission’s Kano Zonal Office, the safe was opened and jewellery, such as necklaces and wristwatches, including 50 Certificates of Occupancy for properties located in Kano, Kaduna and Abuja were found.

“The jewellery found include 55 wristwatches, including three gold watches. Also, 37 gold jewellery, weighing 1,907.9g and another 15 pieces of fashion jewellery were found.”

Ripples Nigeria gathered that all the suspects arrested during the operation were released on administrative bail with the exception of Danagundi, who is still in custody, assisting the investigation.

EFCC’s recent claims come on the heels of discoveries said to have been made at properties belonging to former GMD of Nigeria Nationa Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu and former Customs boss, Abdullahi Dikko.
