The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday evening released Abubakar Sidiqu Usman a political blogger, having detained him more than 24 hours.
His lawyer, Michael Bello, authenticating the news said on Tuesday evening, “We can confirm he has just been released. “We applied for a variation of his bail condition, and they obliged us.
We had to get someone. I cannot disclose the identity of the person, but he is in the service.”
It was not yet known if Sidiqu will have to report back to the commission, but according to his lawyer, he was not told anything of such.
Sidiqu was arrested in his home at Kubwa, Abuja by operatives of the EFCC on Monday on accusation bordering on cyber stalking.
His blog, Abusidiqu.com, had published a report titled, ‘EFCC boss, Magu, commences total war with core EFCC staff’ on August 2, 2016.
According to the blog’s report, members of staff at the EFCC were complaining that they were being bullied by Magu. He also accused Magu of corruption, and of being jittery about the delay in his confirmation by the Senate.
His arrest angered many Nigerians who took to all media platform available in the country to demand for his immediate release.
The issue saw Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government of lacking respect for human rights in the country.
