EFCC finally releases Obanikoro after 18 days in custody

Former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has finally been released on bail after spending 18 days in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

It was learnt that Obanikoro, who was arrested on October 17, was let free by the anti-graft commission about 5pm on Friday. He was accused of getting N4.7 billion through the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014.

Allegedly, Obanikoro pocketed N785 million while he gave the balance of the money to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and Senator Iyiola Omisore, governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti and Osun states in 2014 respectively.

While Fayose won, Omisore lost the election.

Obanikoro reportedly returned N100 million to EFCC and pledged to return another N480 million. His American and Nigerian passports are in the custody of the EFCC.
