EFCC boss Magu vows to eradicate corruption in 12 months

By Ali Smart

Contrary to widespread insinuations in some quarters that some of the ministers who served in the last political dispensation are untouchable, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday disclosed that it is presently investigating Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, the former Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, her counterpart in ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison Madueke and a host of others.

The EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, broke the news in Abuja during his visit to the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes for the agency’s budget defense session.

A close associate of Diezani is also being investigated, Magu said.

The EFCC boss, who was responding to questions asked by a member of the committee, Hon. Razak Atunwa (APC, Kwara) on if the two ministers and Aluko were included in the investigative list of the anti-graft agency, responded to the lawmaker’s question in the affirmative, saying “very soon, we will go into the petroleum industry.”

Magu had earlier in his speech asked the Committee to consider and approve “additional N500 million to assist in our operational activities as more sectors of the economy may likely come under investigative activities during the year.”
