The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is expected to arraign a former Head of Service of the Federation, Mr. Stephen Oronsaye, and four others on a 24-count charge of money laundering on Monday.

The charges brought against the former HOS and two other accomplices border on stealing and obtaining by false pretence, otherwise known as 419. The EFCC is claiming that the accused committed offences contravening Section 14 (1)(b) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2004.

The case has been assigned to Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja. According to the charge sheet, those charged alongside Oronsaye as contained in the suit no. FHC/CR/297/15 are Osarenkhoe Afe, Frederick Hamilton and Global Services Limited.

Most of the offences allegedly committed by the suspects between March and May 2010 were also said to have involved a former Deputy Director, Finance, in the office of the Head of Service, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina.

The commission had made efforts to get Maina to face trial for the alleged N1.9 billion fraud case without success, but efforts have been intensified to get him to face trial alongside others.

The EFCC is accusing the former Head of Service and the others of disguising the original nature of proceeds from acts of illegality.
