Egyptian policeman gets life sentence for killing driver over fare
A Cairo criminal court has sentenced an Egyptian policeman to life in prison for shooting and killing a rickshaw driver when an argument ensued between both of them over a fare.
Following the dispute which occurred in February, Police Sergeant Mostafa Abdel Haseeb shot the driver Mohamed Ismail, 25, in the head.
The convict can appeal against the verdict issued by the Cairo criminal court over the shooting which sparked public anger over alleged police brutality and led to protests at the city’s police headquarters according to reports.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has announced a crackdown on police abuses following the protests.
