Egypt's Mohamed Salah set to join Liverpool

English Premier League side Liverpool are closing in on signing AS Roma and Egypt winger Mohamed Salah for a club record £40m.

According reports in Europe on Tuesday, talks are ongoing, with Salah excited to play in the Premier League again after an unfulfilling spell at Chelsea.

The 25-year old joined the Blues from Basel in 2014 for £11m, but went on to have successful loan spells away at Fiorentina and then Roma, before making a permanent move (to Roma) for about £15m last summer.

Salah made 11 interceptions, won 22 tackles, scored 15 goals and made 31 league appearances for Roma in the last campaign.

The Egyptian was simply a key figure as Roma finished second in Italian Serie A last season, and must have added to reasons why he’s a prime target for manager Jurgen Klopp.

Meanwhile, if the deal with Liverpool this summer exceeds the £34m they paid for Sadio Mane, Salah will become the most expensive African player ever.
