Eid-el-Fitr: FG extends public holiday till Thursday July 7

The Federal Government has extend the Eid-el-Fitr holiday by one day, meaning that the holiday will now end on Thursday July 7 and no more Wednesday July 6 as earlier announced.

This came as a result of the directive of President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, that fasting continue till Tuesday (today) as a result of non-sighting of the moon.

It was based on this that the Federal Government now declared Wednesday and Thursday July 6 and 7 2016 as Public Holidays.

Making the declaration on behalf of the government, the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, advised Nigerians to use the period for sober reflections to ensure harmony, unity and peaceful co-existence, asking them to continue giving full support to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in his sustained effort to pursue socio-economic and political growth of the nation.
