Ekiti lawmakers pack bags, ready for prison, hold street session for Fayose
Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly on Wednesday protested the freezing of Governor Ayo Fayose’s account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), condemning the action of the commission.
The lawmakers who took over a highway in the state capital to register their anger over the EFCC “harassment” of the state, condemned the freezing of his account without due process.
They stormed the streets with bag packed, claiming they are ready for arrest and possible detention.
They held their plenary session on the Okesa highway in Ado Ekiti, displaying placards with inscriptions such as “We are ready for arrest, we cannot be intimidated”, “Harassing lawmakers, governor won’t give you 2018”.
Addressing journalist during the protest, Kola Oluwawole, the Assembly Speaker said, No amount of intimidation, harassment, arrest will push us to do any dirty job. We have had enough of intimidation. They should leave Governor Fayose alone; he was duly elected by the people of Ekiti state.
The freezing of his account without following due process is a high level of intimidation and we condemn it”, he stated.
