All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged winner of a senatorial and 2 constituency elections in Imo state.

The result is the outcome of the rescheduled rerun election held on July 28, which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier held on July 23, but failed to conclude.

According to INEC, the election was not concluded on the initial scheduled date owing to violence in some areas.

Announcing the result on Friday (today) INEC declared Mr Ben Uwajumogu of the APC winner of Imo North Senatorial District.

INEC Returning Officer for Imo North Senatorial District, who announced the result, said Uwajumogu scored 56,076 votes to defeat Mr Athan Achonu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 43, 815 votes. He said the outcome was a summary of scores of July 23 and that of July 28 exercise.

The result of the first election had Uwajumogu scored 48,921 while Achonu, of the PDP 40, 142 votes.

APC also emerged winner of the two state constituency elections in the state. While Mr Nkenna Nzeruo won Oru East State Constituency, Mr Collins Chiji was declared winner for Isiala Mbano State Constituency.

Uwajumogu victory means that the entire South East states will now have a senator at the Senate, as APC failed to produce a senator from the zone during the 2015 general elections.

Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha, had already told Senator Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP, who is currently Deputy Senate President to get ready to vacate his seat for an APC senator from South East.

He said that it was an aberration for a PDP member to hold a leadership position in an APC controlled National Assembly.
