Ex-gov Ohakim dumps politics, laments Nigerian situation

A former governor of Ebonyi State, Martin Elechi, was grilled for the second day running by EFCC operatives over allegations of funds misappropriation by his government.

Elechi, who left the commission around 4.30pm, is expected to visit again next week.

This is as former governor of Imo State, Ihedi Ohakim, failed to show up at the commission’s office on Wednesday to clarify some issues in a probe of his administration.

Ohakim, who was scheduled to visit the Abuja headquarters of the commission, was summoned to answer questions in an ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption and embezzlement by his government.

EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that Elechi was again interrogated, adding that he may be needed for further questioning next week.

Uwujaren stated that Ikedi was expected to shed light on issues in an old case being investigated by the anti-graft agency.

He said, “We are about rounding off the investigation and we need him to clarify some issues, but he didn’t show up, he may still come today or tomorrow (Thursday).

He also said, “Elechi was at our office in continuation of the questioning on some issues we are investigating; he came in the morning and was released later, but we are expecting him again next week.”
