Electricity generation improves as TCN distributes 4,009MW

It appears there is gradual improvement and stabilisation in Nigeria electricity generation as Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Wednesday, wheeled out about 4,009 megawatts of generated electricity to 11 distribution companies.

Day to day power statistics from Nigerian Electricity System Operator, a unit of the TCN indicates that power generation regularly improved during Christmas season with a highest generation of 4,208.3 megawatts from the national grid, with a record of 3,366 megawatts as its lowest during the same period.

This is coming however, as Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) on January 3, revealed that over N534 billion of revenue was lost by the power sector in 2016.

The reason NESI gave as responsible for the loss include shortages in gas supply, frequency and line limitations and water levels management constraints, which resulted in numerous cases of electricity outage in the country.
