Emenalo on Chelsea exit: 'A difficult but right decision'

Former Nigeria international, Michael Emenalo has admitted that his quitting the role of Technical Director at Chelsea was a difficult decision, but believes it is right for him and his family.

The 36-year old, who joined the Premier League champions in 2007 as an assistant under former Blues boss, Avram Grant, has enjoyed a successful time at Stamford Bridge.

Emenalo has helped the club win three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League.

But after announcing his decision on Monday, Emenalo told Chelsea website: “This has been a very difficult decision to make, but one I believe is right for both myself and my family, and the club.”

He added: “I have had the privilege to work alongside some of the most talented people in the world of sport over the past 10 years, and I will depart incredibly proud of the achievements we have made.

“I wish Chelsea every success and look forward to following the club’s future triumphs from afar.”

Also in the statement, the club Chairman, Bruce Buck and Director, Marina Granovskaia, expressed their “regret” in accepting Emenalo’s resignation, adding that they are extremely grateful “for his tireless work over the past 10 years.”

The Blues manager, Antonio Conte also admitted that he has enjoyed working with the Nigerian, and wished him the very best for the future.
