End of the road for Rivers Hoopers as they bow out of FIBA ABL

Nigeria’s representatives at the FIBA Basketball League, Rivers Hoopers bowed out of the competitio after losing 91-70 to JS Kairouan of Tunisia on Sunday.

The game was their third and final Group A game in Sale, Morocco.

The defeat means Hoopers failed to advance to the Elite 8 stage, and will return to Nigeria on Monday.

Abdul Yahaya had a team high 22 points and five rebounds, Solomon Ajegbeyi scored 12 points and seven rebounds, while Emmanuel Balogun added 10 points.

For JS Kairouan, Lawrence Gilbert Jr scored a game high 29 points and five rebounds, Jawhar Jawadi had 17 points and six rebounds while Maodo Nguirane added 16 points and 13 rebound double-double.

Gilbert and Jawadi combined for 11 of the 18 three point shots made by the Tunisians which proved crucial against Hoopers who had a poor shooting percentage of 34.21% from the field.

Hoopers had kicked off their campaign with a defeat to AS Sale but bounced back in their second game with a win against SLAC of Guinea.

From group A, AS Sale and JS Kairouan made it to the Elite 8 of the FIBA Africa Basketball League.
