An electronics seller identified as Ezekiel Igbokwe has revealed to the police how he butchered his wife’s lover after he caught them on their matrimonial bed when he was paraded among 23 suspects by Ogun State Police Command.
32-year-old Ezekiel said he lost his cool when he caught his wife Juliet Igbokwe and her lover, Victor Olatundun, 38, on their matrimonial bed.
“I am a businessman; I sell electronics at Ago-Iwoye. I traveled to Onitsha on July 25. When I came back on the 27th, I met a man inside my room and we started fighting.
“The man was stronger than I and I didn’t know what to do. Then I got a cutlass from my toilet and cut him in the hand. He died on the way, while policemen were taking him to the hospital, because their car ran out of fuel.”
Ezekiel said if he had known that things would have amounted to this, he would have walked away from the scene but he was too shocked to discover that his wife was cheating on him.
“It is not my intention to waste a soul like this. It is Satan’s work; if I really know it will be like this, I would have walked away.
“My aim was to injure him, go to the police station and make a report. It is obvious this is Satan’s work. We did not quarrel before I went to Onitsha. She has three children for me. But I got to know my wife had one child before we met.”
Recounting her own side of the story, Juliet said she was being mistreated by her husband who leaves his family for months each time they had a quarrel.
“When my husband and I quarrel, he would leave us and travel for months.
“I have known the man (late lover) for six months. My husband is not taking care of me. He always leaves me and the children to suffer at home.”
Continuing, Juliet, a snuff trader said she met her lover who is also a snuff seller about a month ago and ever since they met, he had been pestering her for marriage but she sounded it clear to him that she was a married woman.
Juliet also revealed that though they were both caught in their matrimonial home by her husband, but they didn’t have sex.
“The man has been disturbing me that he wanted to marry me. I said no, that I am married. Maybe the man used charm on me, I don’t know.
“All I know is that he called me that he wanted to see me and I told him not to come. He knows my house and when he came I didn’t know what happened.
“He used to deliver goods to me in the house. But on the day of the incident, he told me he was coming from somewhere and that he wants to sleep in our place till the next day. “He didn’t know that my husband was away. He tried to sleep with me, but later he didn’t.” She said.
Ahmed Iliyasu, the state Police Commissioner said Ezekiel was arrested on July 25 at 12:25p.m at Peace Lodge, Itura Street, for killing Olatundun, who lived at Bishop’s Court, both in Awa-Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state noting further that investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
