Enyimba thrash Rayon Sports in Aba to reach CAFCC semifinal

Nigeria professional Football League (NPFL) club, Enyimba have reached the semifinal of the CAF Confederation Cup after thrashing Rayon Sports 5-1 in Aba on Sunday.

The People’s Elephant had held their opponents to a goalless draw in the first leg of the quarter-final tie in Rwanda, but got ruthless in the reverse fixture as they thrilled the crowd from the start to finish of the encounter.

Rayon Sports were playing in the quarter-finals of a CAF competition for the first time in their history, while Enyimba – two-time continental champions – are in the second-tier competition for the first time ever.

Stanley Dimgba opened scoring in the 12th minute to put the hosts ahead, before Caleb Bimenyimana grabbed an equaliser in the 25th minute.

The hosts got back on the lead as Ikouwen Udoh netted the second goal in the 29th minute.

Sunday Adetunji got the third only two minutes after the break, before a 60th- and 78th-minutes goals by Joseph Osadiaye and Isiaka Oladuntoye completed the rout.

The coach Usman Abdallah side will now face either Congo’s CARA Brazzaville or Raja Casablanca of Morocco in the semi-finals next month.
