EPL: Hull City hold United in goalless draw as Man City win

English Premier League bottom club Hull City frustrated Manchester United by claiming a goalless draw at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Hull goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic was at his best throughout the match, as he periodically stopped Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata from putting the hosts ahead. The Red Devils dominated the match but could not find a way past the Tigers goalkeeper.

“Our goalkeeper had a good night, but I prefer to talk about all the team,” Hull Boss Marco Silva told newsmen after the match.

“It is a very good result for us against a very good team. The secret We played like a team with a great attitude spirit and character. What we showed tonight again, I am happy. Sometimes you have to suffer in moments but we have to play as a team,” he stated.

United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic who stated that some of the saves made by Jakupovic was for the cameras, also reacted thus, “We are very disappointed. If you don’t win the games, you should be disappointed.”

The single point keeps United in sixth place, but allowed Hull to move off the bottom of the table with a point above Sunderland.

In the other league matches of the night, Stoke City were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Everton, while Manchester City thrashed West Ham 4-0 at London Stadium.

Making his first Premier League start with Man City following his £27m move, Gabriel Jesus scored his first goal in the 39th minute of the game after Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva had made the first and second efforts for City. And Yaya Toure added a fourth after the break from a penalty when Hammers debutant Jose Fonte brought down Sterling in the 65th minute.

“Our high pressing was good. We were so aggressive without the ball,” City Boss Pep Guardiola said in a post-match conference.

“Gabriel Jesus is a fighter with instinct for the goal. He’s good at assists too.

“We played a front three with an average age of 20. I like the fans to be excited. Those players are the future of the club,” he said.

As it stands, City are now only behind fourth-placed Liverpool – who were held to a draw by Chelsea on Tuesday – on goal difference, and 10 points behind leaders Chelsea.
