EPL: Kane, Ali fire Spurs past Everton; Man City see off Sunderland

A brace from Harry Kane and a stoppage time goal from Dele Ali spurred second-placed Tottenham to a 3-2 victory against Everton on Sunday to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to seven points.

Kane, who is now the leading scorer in the Premier League with 19 goals, gave Tottenham the lead in the 20th minute while his second came after the
break.

Romelu Lukaku and Valencia scored for the visitors in the 81st and 93rd minutes respectively, but Dele Ali’s finish that came a minute before Valencia’s was enough to give the home team the entire three points.

Spurs secured their 16th league win of this season, to stay second, but Chelsea could re-establish their 10-point lead on Monday if they defeat West Ham.

Elsewhere, Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane scored to help Manchester City back into third place in the Premier League as they thumped Sunderland 2-0 to leave them rooted to the bottom of the table.

The home team defended doggedly before City pulled ofr a counter attack that ended with Aguero prodding in Raheem Sterling’s low cross from close range minutes before the end of the first half.

David Silva later fed Leroy Sane as the German winger doubled their lead just after the break.

“I don’t think you can fault the players for any of that. We lacked quality at times though. They did all they could to try to get something out of the game,” Sunderland Boss David Moyes said after the game.
