A late goal by Georginio Wijnaldum helped English Premier League leaders, Liverpool maintain their perfect start to the league season with win over Sheffield United.

After a goalless first half, the hosts continued to give Jurgen Klopp’s men a fight, and it looked like they would take at least a point from the game.

But the winning goal came in the 70th minute when the Blades goalkeeper Dean Henderson spilled the Wijnaldum’s tame effort before it squirmed agonisingly over the line.

Sheffield kept up with the fight, even as substitute Leon Clarke could have drew both sides level late on, but he blazed over.

Liverpool, who finished second last season, have now won their first seven Premier League games of the season.

As it stands, they have an eight-point lead at the top of the early season table.
