Eritrea alleges US coup plot, accuses Israel of demonising it before the eyes of the world

Eritrea says it has uncovered hard evidence of a plot by the United States of America to overthrow it’s government in the capital of Asmara, in the year 2011.

In a statement issued on Friday, Eritrea’s ministry of information also accused Israel of helping to demonise the country in the eyes of the rest of the world.

It is not clear what provoked this rare outburst, but the government says it has got hold of “confidential documents” used by the conspirators.

Eritrea also accused the US spy agency, the CIA, of planning to incite “insurrection and protests” similar to the Arab Spring. The statement which was released in the Tigrinya language alleges that a number of State Department officials, who are mentioned by name, held a “secret meeting” in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

It also says that “operatives” considered military action similar to that taken against former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Eritrea also accused Israel’s spy agency, Mossad, of spreading false information that suggested that Eritrea was collaborating with terrorist organisations based in the Middle East.

However, there is no evidence that there was a conspiracy and neither has the government released any documents to support its claim.
