EU prepares no-deal Brexit plan as May's move flounders before UK Parliament

A no-deal Brexit plan is being considered with implementation on the way by the European Union just in case the United Kingdom crashes out of the EU without a plan.

Reports say the EU has announced plans to reduce the impact of Brexit even as Prime Minister Theresa May’s proposed exit plan flounders in Parliament.

The UK has allocated £2bn ($2.5bn) in funding to government departments to limit disruption in certain key areas, such as finance and transport, if Brexit goes ahead in March without a deal.

“These measures will not – and cannot – mitigate the overall impact of a ‘no-deal’ scenario,” it said in a statement.

“This is an exercise in damage limitation,” added commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis in a news conference, saying a contingency plan was necessary “given the continued uncertainty in the UK”.

The move by the EU is coming two weeks after Parliamentarians in the United Kingdom lower chamber House of Commons all backed a motion, tabled demanding full disclosure of the Brexit legal advice.

The move came after PM May failed to publish the Brexit legal advise she had with the European Union with reports suggesting the UK government will publish in full the legal advice.
