Europe vows to keep Iran nuclear deal alive but offers no guarantees

After failing in last ditch efforts to convince the US not to pull-out of Iran deal, European powers have vowed to keep the pact alive without the backing of President Donald Trump.

The European Union aid it would try to keep Iran’s oil and investment flowing, but admitted they would struggle to provide the guarantees Tehran seeks.

“We all agreed that we have a relative in intensive care and we all want to get him or her out of intensive care as quickly as possible,” EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini told reporters after the 90-minute meeting.

Federica said all sides had agreed to find practical solutions over the coming weeks.

“I cannot talk about legal or economic guarantees but I can talk about serious, determined, immediate work from the European side,” Mogherini said.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is still miffed by the decision of the USA to pull out of the nuclear deal describing the move by Trump as “silly”, “impudent” and “worthless”.
