Evacuations suspended as death toll from Brazil dam collapse rises to 58

Families whose loved ones are missing after the dam collapse in southern Brazil are now stewed in despair after authorities in Minas Gerais state put search and rescue operations on hold.

Reports say the latest official toll from the dam breach has risen from 34 to 58 with 305 other people declared missing.

According Lieutenant Colonel Flavio Godinho, a spokesman for the state civil defence agency, rescuers found a bus full of bodies.

H added that so far, 192 people have been rescued alive, 23 of whom were hospitalised with injuries, officials said.

Reports say the dam collapse in Minas Gerais state, unleashed a wave of mud which destroyed houses and other valuable property.
