Everton sign Nigerian wonderkid Henry Onyekuru

English Premier League side Everton FC have fight off competition from Arsenal and West Ham to sign Henry Onyekuru from Belgian outfit KAS Eupen.

Arsenal were the leading the chase for the Nigerian star, but later backed out as coach Arsene Wenger insisted he wanted to continue monitoring the 20-year old.

However, according to UK reporters, Onyekuru will not begin this season with the Toffees as he was not able to earn a UK work permit.

He will now be loaned to Belgian giants Anderlecht to spend a season before coming to Goodison Park.

“Everton feel another season spent with Anderlecht, who will be playing in the Champions League, will be significant for Onyekuru’s development and he will arrive at Goodison Park in 12 months a much more polished forward,” Daily Mail reports on Tuesday.

Onyekuru finished last season as the joint leading scorer in the Belgian Super League with 22 goals in 38 games – which attracted the attention of a host of clubs across Europe.

His superb form earned him his first international caps, as he was invited to the Super Eagles camp in Paris and also to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa earlier this month.

Onyekuru is Everton’s third signing this summer behind £30million goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and £25m Davy Klaassen from Ajax.
