Ex-AGF Adoke faults Jonathan’s claim during launch of “My Transition Hours”

One of the claims former President Goodluck Jonathan made during the launch of his book, “My Transition Hours”, has been faulted by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice during his administration, Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN).

Jonathan was reported to have said during the event in Abuja, where his book was launched on his 61st birthday, that he rejected counsels by the then Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Adoke, then Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, who was a compere at the book launch; and his then Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs, Warpamowei Dudafa, not to concede defeat to President Buhari in 2015.

However, in his response, Adoke suggested Jonathan turned the truth on its head. This was as he claimed that on the contrary it was he, Okonjo-Iweala, Chidoka and Owei-Dudafa that actually advised the ex-president to accept defeat.

“As a patriot, I could not have advised him not to concede defeat. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Osita Chidoka, I and Waripamowei-Dudafa are the real heroes of that historic concession as we ensured that despite pressures from the hawks within the administration, the President conceded defeat by calling President Buhari as at the time he did.

“We are the real heroes of the concession by Jonathan. We were the ones who made the former President to make the concession call to President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We are not saboteurs, we are patriots. We actually asked Jonathan to concede. I have impeccable democratic credentials; no one can spoil my records.

“I expect that Jonathan will clear the air on the issue as he knows the truth,” Adoke said.

He meanwhile said that he will in his forthcoming book; address the issue “most comprehensively.”
