A group of former councillors in Niger State are fuming with rage over a delay in payment of their severance allowance which has already been approved by the state governor.

The former councillors in a bid to get their severance allowance paid, have threatened to take legal action against the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs over the delay in payment.

The Chairman, Committee on Allowance Recovery, Aliyu Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of the former councillors on Friday, also appealed to Governor Abubakar Bello, to effect the payment of their allowance entitlements before the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

He said, “We have it on good authority that Governor Abubakar Bello, has approved the payment of the allowance but the Ministry of Local Government is delaying payment.

“If nothing is done before the end of November this year we will drag the government and officials of the Ministry for Local Government before the Economic Financial Crimes Commission and the ICPC because this is a case of corruption.”
