Ex-Gov Chime insists PDP is dead and buried

Enugu State’s former Governor Sullivan Chime has insisted that his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is dead and will never again contest election in any election.

The immediate past governor of Enugu, who led the state under PDP platform for eight years, has therefore called on politicians in his state with the ambition of contesting the 2019 general elections to pursue their political aspirations through the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Chime declared this during a rally to welcome prominent ex-PDP members that defected to the APC in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, adding that the APC is a party once a politician becomes its member his body and soul will be at rest.

He said, “APC is a young party that came at a time the PDP was dying. Some former members of the PDP joined hands in forming the APC and it is waxing stronger.

“To demonstrate its seriousness, it took power after just one year in existence – that is why we came out to identify with the APC, a party that, when you belong to it, your body and soul will be at rest.

“The PDP will not contest election next time. We felt aggrieved that the PDP died, so we will guard the APC jealously.”

Chime, who is being hounded by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of corruption as a governor, has been accused of cross-carpeting to the ruling APC, to escape prosecution.

This is as many Nigerians perceive the ruling party of absolving its members of corruption while chasing after opposition members and seeming enemies.

The former governor’s statement that APC is a party one joins and has rest of body and soul, has been described by some analysts to suggests he may have indeed ran to APC where he may have peace from the probing eyes of anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC.
