Ex-Gov Mimiko denies sponsoring protest against Buhari

Immediate past governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, has refuted allegations that he is one of those behind the sponsorship of the onoing anti-Buhari protest in Abuja.

A group of protesters, led by Charles Oputa, known as Charly Boy have been on protest in Abuja demanding that President Muhammadu Buhari either return and resume duties as president, or resign.

However, another group countering those demanding for Buhari’s resignation, at the weekend fingered Mimiko and a governor from one of the north eastern state, as among those sponsoring the anti-Buhari protest.

But in his reaction on Sunday, Mimiko debunked the claim and described it as a blackmail targeted at tarnishing his reputation.

In a statement signed by Eni Akinsola, the ex-governor’s media adviser said, “We are aware of an attempt to blackmail Dr Olusegun Mimiko by linking him to an anti-Buhari protest.

“The blackmailers are out to bandy figures running into hundreds of millions as funds released for the phantom support. Mimiko is not interested in causes he cannot stand up to be seen as supporting.”

Mimiko further stated in the statement that he was of the “firm conviction that the President, by transmitting power to the Vice President, has fulfilled the proper and constitutional requirement.”
