Govt finally arraigned ex-Gov Suswam in court

Former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam has withdrawn the N10billion fundamental human rights suit he levelled against Department of State Service, its director-general, Lawal Daura, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), before an Abuja Federal High Court.

Counsel to Suswam, Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN), had as the case came up on Wednesday applied to the presiding judge, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, that he was withdrawing the suit.

Sequel upon the applicant’s prayer, Justice Kolawole struck out the N10billion fundamental human rights enforcement suit.

Before the judge sacked the case, the defendant’s counsel, Mr. C.D Akpe, said he had no objection to the withdrawal.

Suswam was on February 25, 2017 arrested and detained by the DSS and was only released after spending about 70 days in the security operative’s custody.

Meanwhile, Suswam who was not in court on Tuesday for his prosecution case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the same Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on health grounds, was present in court on Wednesday when his case against the DSS was withdrawn.

In his case with the EFCC, Suswam is charged along with his then Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Omadachi Oklobia, on alleged diversion of about N3.9billion belonging to the state when he was governor.

The former governor and Oklobia together with former Accountant, Benue State Government House Administration, Mrs. Janet Aluga, are to be arraigned by office of the Attorney-General of the Federation before Justice Kolawole on Thursday.
