EX-IGP appointed to end bandits’ activities in Zamfara
A former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has been saddled with the responsibility of putting an end to the activities of bandits in Zamfara state.
The former IG was on Tuesday appointed by the state governor, Bello Matawalle to lead a newly inaugurated committee that will find a lasting solution to the menace of the deadly group
At the inauguration which took place at the Government House, Gusau on Tuesday, the committee was also saddled with the responsibility to investigate the violent uprising that was carried out against the suspended Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim, who was some weeks back suspended for alleged involvement with bandits.
According to the governor, the need to create the committee was borne out of his desire to get to the root cause of the lingering security challenges that have bedeviled the state for a long period of time.
Matawalle said the task before the committee is to examine the immediate and remote causes of banditry and other waves of crimes across Zamfara State.
He added that the corporate existence of the state has been at stake as people no longer sleep with their two eyes closed.

He lamented that farming, which is the state’s mainstay, and other economic activities are no longer safe to undertake because of the activities of armed bandits.
The nine-member committee also include Senator Saidu Mohammed Dansadau, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi (Wamban Shinkafi), Justice Nasiru Gummi, Alhaji Mamman Anka, Alhaji Mamuda Maradun and Alhaji Bawa Ibrahim.
Permanent Secretary, Home Affairs and Director Public Prosecution will serve as Secretary and Assistant Secretary.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Abubakar in his acceptance speech promised to be diligent in executing the assignment.
He added that the committee will not hesitate to invite anybody within the royal class, or in government to appear before it as may require in carrying out a credible job.
