EX-NIMASA DG, Calistus Obi, bags 7yrs imprisonment

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced former Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) acting Director-General Calistus Obi to seven years imprisonment.

However, the court gave him an option of N42million fine after refusing to order the forfeiture of his seized assets.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun had on May 23 found him guilty of N136 million fraud and converting the agency’s funds to personal use

He was convicted along with Alu Dimas, an aide to Patrick Akpobolokemi, a former Director-General of NIMASA.

The convicts were arraigned alongside two companies: Grand Pact Limited and Global Sea Investment, on April 12, 2016, on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, conversion and money laundering to the tune of N136million (One Hundred and Thirty Six Million Naira).
