Ex-NIMASA DG, Omatseye jailed 5yrs for fraud

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Raymond Omatseye, to five years imprisonment.

Omatseye was jailed over a N1.5bn contract scam that took place during his time as NIMASA boss. He was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for engaging in contract splitting and bid rigging.

Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia gave the verdict in a ruling on Friday.

He was also accused of engaging in money laundering contrary to Section 14(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004.
