Buhari, ex-PDP factional chairman Sheriff hold secret meeting

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) factional national chairman, Senator Ali-Modu Sheriff, has overcome the initial hitches in his bid to rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sheriff, who is now a member of the APC, has also settled his rift with his state Governor Kashim Shettima. This is even as he had called on members of the party to make concerted efforts to ensure APC is successful in the coming 2019 general elections.

Sheriff, who was succeeded by Shettima as Borno State governor had following the soured relationship between him and the governor dumped the APC for the PDP before the 2015 general elections.

However, after he was chased out as the PDP national chairman by the Supreme Court following a protracted court battle, he recently decided to return to the APC.

His bid to rejoin APC met some hitches when the party leadership refused to allow him defect to the party from Abuja.

The APC publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, had in a statement few hours to Sheriff’s official defection to the party, which was slated to take place at the party headquarters in Abuja, announced that Sheriff should rejoin the APC from his ward in Borno State, if he actually wants to defect to the party.

Sheriff, who was at a meeting of the stakeholders of the party in Borno State on Friday, where he confirmed his eventual return to APC, urged all supporters of the party in the state to unite and contribute to the success of the party ahead 2019 polls.

“I rejoined my great party, the APC, following the misunderstanding we had in PDP when I was the national chairman. But I had to come back home and rejoin the APC, which is the party I helped to form. I am joining the APC as an ordinary member and I want to call on all and sundry to support the leadership of Governor Kashim Shettima and the APC in the state,” Sheriff added.

Governor Shettima in his speech at the meeting, urged delegates for the state congress holding this Saturday (today), to elect credible leaders so as to move the party forward.
