Ex-SGF Babachir Lawal arraigned in court for fraud, conspiracy

Less than twenty four hours after his arrest, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, before an Abuja Federal High Court.

Babachir who was arrested yesterday by the anti-graft agency appeared before Justice Jude Okeke on a 10-count charge bothering on conspiracy and fraud against him and five others.

In the charge filed on January 30, Babachir alongside Hamidu David Lawal, Suleiman Abubakar and two companies, Rholavision Engineering Ltd and Josmon Technologies Ltd, were accused of fraudulently acquiring a property and thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 26(1)(c) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 and punishable under Section 12 of the same Act.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
