Iwobi set for new Arsenal deal

In from Ripples Nigeria

Super Eagles striker, Alex Iwobi, has repaid the confidence reposed on him by Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger, by helping the Gunners secure an away win over Everton in an English Premier League match on Saturday.

After an excellent performance against Barcelona in the Champions League during the week, Iwobi scored his first Arsenal goal as Arsene Wenger’s side won 2-0 at Everton to keep alive their outside chance of winning the Premier League title.

Arsene Wenger’s side took the lead after just seven minutes through Danny Welbeck, before Alex Iwobi extended their advantage with a debut goal on his first-ever Premier League start for the club.

Collecting possession just outside his own area after Alexis had robbed Besic, Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin’s lofted ball over the top caught Everton’s back four square, with Iwobi running on to the pass before firing through the Robles’ legs.

Arsenal won for only the second time in nine games and the first time in four attempts in the league as they moved within eight points of Leicester City before the leaders’ game at Crystal Palace.

Iwobi said, “It is not bad, I’m enjoying the moment. I’m just happy to help my team and that is a positive, so we will take that into the next game.”

He added that his partnership with Daniel Welbeck has been inspirational.

“It is a dream playing with him. He gives me confidence; he is helping me out and gives me advice.

“It works, we are all confident in training. Even though we have had a difficult week, we are trying to put that aside and concentate on the league.
