Ezekwesili faults party’s claims, promises to give details on why she withdrew

Former presidential candidate of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili, has reacted to allegations levelled against her by the party’s national chairman, Alhaji Abdul -Ganiyu Galadima.

She said all that Galadima, who was also her vice presidential candidate, said about her were baseless and a figment of his imagination.

Ezekwesili, who announced her withdrawal as ACPN presidential candidate Thursday morning, said she would soon give details on why she decided to quit the race.

Galadima had in response to Ezekwesili’s decision to quit accused her at a news conference in Abuja of insincerity and said she never showed commitment to the course from the beginning.

He alleged that the former minister was just in the race to negotiate to be Minister of Finance and that she had kept the party in the dark about her real intention.

But in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria, Ezekwesili’s media aide , Mr Uzoma Ubabukoh, lambasted Galadima over his claims against the ACPN former presidential candidate.

Ubabukoh said, “All these allegations are a figment of his imagination. They are baseless . The decision to withdraw from the race is in the interest of the nation. It should be the nation first before anything.”

According to him, it was curious that Galadima less than three hours after Ezekwesili ’s withdrawal, endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said the action showed the ACPN Chairman had long had a personal agenda and never believed in the idea to disrupt the status quo in the country.

Ubabukoh added that Ezekwesili would soon address a news conference where she would provide details about her withdrawal from the presidential race.

In the statement announcing her withdrawal, which was made available to newsmen by Ubabukoh, Ezekwesili had claimed she withdrew from the race after due consultations with Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora .

She added that her decision to quit the race was informed by the need to help build a coalition to stop the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party from winning.
