Ezenwa eyes NPFL title with Enyimba

FC Ifeanyi Ubah goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa has expressed his readiness to prove himself again if given the nod to start in the World Cup qualifying game against Zambia on Saturday.

The match which will seal Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA tournement in Russia if they win is scheduled for 5p.m at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.

With first choice goalkeeper Akpeyi sidelined by injury, Ezenwa was on goal for the Eagles in last month’s double header with Cameroon, where he did put up fine displays as Nigeria came out on top 5-1 on aggregate.

But Akpeyi has since recovered from the injury and has returned to team ahead of the Zambia showdown.

But speaking in a session with reporters in Uyo, Ezenwa said he was warming up to the prospects of playing on Saturday, vowing to put up a flawless performance to earn Nigeria a ticket to the World Cup.

“I have a very healthy competition with Akpeyi. He is a good goalkeeper but I proved myself last time and if given the chance again I will try to prove myself again.”

Meanwhile, in a chat with reporters after a training session in Uyo, Super Eagles Tefhnical Adviser, Gernot Rohr refused to name his choice goalkeeper for the crucial encounter.

He however praised Ezenwa for his performance during the games against Cameroon and his outstanding performance at the just concluded WAFU Cup in Ghana where he was crowned the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.
