FA Cup: Chelsea, Man City, Spurs advance to fifth round

Premier League leaders Chelsea thrashed west London rivals Brentford four goals to nil on Saturday, to reach the fifth round of the English FA Cup.

The Blues made nine changes to their starting XI but still had far too much for their Championship opponents.

Willian’s free-kick put the visitors ahead in the 14th minute before Pedro finished a sweeping move to double the score seven minutes later. The third was scored on the break by Branislav Ivanovic, who was later fouled to allow Michy Batshuayi to add a fourth from the penalty spot nine minutes before the end of regulation time.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City also scaled through the fourth round as they thumped Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace 3-0 at Selhurst Park.

City went in front when Gabriel Jesus, who was making his first start in the team, set up Raheem Sterling to score.

Leroy Sane doubled the visitor’s lead in the 71st minute, before Yaya Toure completed the victory with an exquisite finish from a free-kick.

Tottenham Hotspur won 4-3 against Wycombe thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Son Heung Min.

Son’s hat-trick plus goals from Vincent Janssen (penalty) and Dele Alli were enough to send Spurs into the fifth round of the competiion, making efforts from Pauline Hayes and Substitute Garry Thompson of no effect.

Other Premier League teams that advanced to the fifth round include Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Burnley, while Southampton, Liverpool and Crystal Palace crashed out.
