FA Cup: Iheanacho scores as Man City destroy Huddersfield

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho came from the bench to score a stoppage time goal as his club Manchester City came from one goal down to thrash Huddersfield Town 5-1 in their English FA Cup fifth-round replay on Wednesday.

Iheanacho who doesn’t get a lot of game time for the Etihad club tapped home Jesus Navas’ low cross in the 91st minute to add to the four goals earlier scored by Leroy Sane, Pablo Zabaleta and Sergio Aguero.

After a 0-0 draw in the original tie, Manchester City have now cruised into the FA Cup quarter-finals after fighting back to beat the much-changed Championship side.

“I am very happy for the result and the two goal but especially for getting through to the next round,” Sergio Aguero, who scored a brace, said after the match.

The visitors scored the first goal of the game in the 7th minute but could not hold unto it as the conceded five in return.

“Even in the moment (when we conceded) we were playing quite good, we made good things against a good team,” City Boss Pep Guardiola told reporters after the game.

“We are happy because we’re in the quarterfinals. I was impressed with Huddersfield in both halves – they have good quality players. We missed a lot of the last passes. But OK – we knew how tough it could be and we play in a good performance.”

City last won the FA Cup in 2011. They lost to Wigan in the final two years later; and will now make a quarter-final trip to Premier League rivals Middlesbrough on Saturday, 11 March.
