South African side Mamelodi Sundowns grabbed a 1-0 win over DR Congo’s Tout Puissant Mazembe to lift the 2017 CAF Super Cup on Saturday. Three-time winners and defending champions TP Mazembe gave up their title when defender Issama Mpeko brought down Mamelodi's team captain, Homphela Kekana, in the area and conceded a penalty. Ricardo Nascimento then became the day’s hero as he converted the 83rd minute penalty to give Pitso Mosimane’s side a deserving victory after a dominant display at the Loftus Versveld stadium. Mazembe's stars included Ivory Coast goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo, the Ghanaian pair of Solomon Asante on the left wing and Daniel Adjei at playmaker, and Zambians Nathan Sinkala in defensive midfield and Rainford Kalaba at deep striker. In the annual playoff which is always between the CAF Champions League winners and the CAF Confederation Cup winners, Mamelodi Sundowns become the second South African team to lift the Super Cup following the 1996 success of Orlando Pirates when they beat JS Kabylie of Algeria. Meanwhile, on top of lifting the trophy, the South African side will take home $100,000 while TP Mazembe go with $750,000. English Premier League side Burnley FC and reigning champions Leicester City both failed to advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after falling in defeat to Lincoln and Millwall respectively on Saturday.

Lincoln became the first non-league side in 103 years to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals with a dramatic last-minute win over Burnley at Turf Moor, thanks to Sean Raggett’s header.

“I’m lost for words. It’s mad. I can’t believe it!” Raggett, 23, told BT Sport. “Crazy. A non-league side in the quarter-finals, in modern football. It’s unheard of.”

Elsewhere, a ten-man Millwall secured a stunning upset with another last-minute winner, by Shaun Cummings, to beat Leicester City as they advance to the last eight of the competition.
