FAAN confirms rehabilitation work on Enugu Airport runway yet to start, one month after closure

One month after the Federal Government closed Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, rehabilitation work on its runway is yet to start.

The government had on August 24, announced the closure of the airport to enable for the reconstruction of its runway.

However, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Thursday in Lagos told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that work was yet to start at the airport.

Yakubu said that “work is yet to begin on the runway but it will soon, once the processes are concluded.”

The airport is the only international airport in the South East region.

Since its closure, international flights run by Ethiopian Airlines have been diverted to Port Harcourt International Airport in Rivers while domestic flights were diverted to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, Port Harcourt Airport and the Asaba Airport in Delta.
