Facebook reveals documents showing it shared data with more firms

Social media giants, Facebook has revealed previously withheld details about how widely it shared the private information of its users with third-party companies and apps.

The social network submitted documents to the US government which revealed it had data-sharing agreements with 52 hardware and software companies.

These firms – including UPS, dating app Hinge and others – had access to details, including a user’s gender and birthday as well as details about their friends.

The 747-page report was created in response to questions Zuckerberg was asked during his appearance before Congress in April.

Lawmakers gave the billionaire CEO a public grilling over the Cambridge Analytica scandal, but he failed to answer many of their queries.

It was initially believed that more than 87 million users may have had their data mined by Cambridge Analytica through the ‘This Is Your Digital Life’ quiz.

Since that time, countless others have been added to the list of organisations and individuals who may have had access to sensitive personal information.
