Falconets beat South Africa to move closer to World Cup qualififation

Falconets have boosted their chances of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA U-20 World Cup following a 2-0 away vicory against South Africa in the first-leg of their play-off in Polokwane on Saturday.

After dominating in the early part of the first half, the Rasheedat Ajibade fired Nigeria ahead on the half hour mark, before Anam Imo doubled their lead just five minutes after.

It was an impressive win for the Nigerian ladies as they go into the second leg with a two-goal advantage.

The U-20 Women’s World Cup will run from August 5 to August 24 in France.

And the Falconets will pick one of Afrida’s two tickets for the global showpiece is they win on aggregate after the return leg which comes up January 26.

The other play-off tie is between Cameroon and Ghana, with their first leg scheduled to hold in Yaoundé on Sunday.
