Nigeria’s Falconets will on Sunday evening in Papua New Guinea, face Japan as they open the quest for their first ever FIFA Under-20 women World Cup title.

The team had their first training at Bava Park Stadium venue of the game on Friday night with a promise of making a good start.

Japan are another team who never lack ambition, with no shortage of speed, physical prowess, thrills and skills. One notable player in the team is Yui Hasegawa, one of the inspirations behind Japan’s triumph at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica in 2014.

The Nigerian team, led by Peter Dedevbo, also has its share of star names, including Rasheedat Ajibade, the captain of the U-17 side at the recently concluded Jordan 2016 FIFA World Cup.

Ultimately, it can be recalled that the Falconets have reached the final twice, in 2010 and in 2014. This year, they are looking forward to lifting the trophy on December 3.

And a win against Japan will set the ball rolling.
