Falconets thrash South Africa to seal 2018 FIFA World Cup slot
Nigeria’s U-20 women team, Falconets, have qualified for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after thrashing South Africa 6-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, on Saturday.
The game was the return leg of the final round of the qualifiers, and the result meant the Nigerian ladies won the tie 8-0 on aggregate, having beaten the Basetsana 2-0 in Polokwane in the first leg.
It was Gift Monday who opened the scoring on Saturday following a pass from Rasheedat Ajibade, who then netted second goal in the 21st minute.
In the 26th minute, the Falconets went 3-0 up through Anam Imo., before Ajibade got her second of the day followed by Monday’s to put Nigeria 5-0 up before the break.

Monday was sent of in the 71st minute after she was shown a second yellow card, but in spite of going a player down, the Falconets scored again thanks to Imo who brought the score to 6-0.
The Falconets will be making their ninth straight appearance at the U-20 Women’s World Cup since their debut at the maiden edition in 2002 in Canada.
The Nigerian ladies will join their Ghanaian counterparts, who defeated Cameroon 4-1 on aggregate, to represent the continent at the global showpiece in France.
The FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals will hold from 7th to 26th, August 2018.
