Falconets thrash Tanzania in World Cup qualifier

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s football team, Falconets, thumped their Tanzanian counterparts 3-0 in a 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier in Benin City on Saturday.

Two goals by Rasheedat Ajibade and one by Lilian Tule saw the Christopher Danjuma’s team a step closer to the next year’s global finals holding in France.

Tule opened the scoring in the 22nd minute from a freekick while Ajibade grabbed her second half goals in the 52nd and 57th minutes.

The team, which had many more chances but failed to convert them, successfully entertained the many fans that showed of for the game at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

Tanzania will host the Nigerian ladies in the reverse fixture on September 30 in Dar es Salaam.

The Falconets will face Morocco or Senegal in the second round of the qualifiers in November if they go past Tanzania on aggregate.
